cost of decorating

I am looking to repaper a room 12ftx12ft with dado rail. The existing is a painted blown paper. I have been quoted £230 labour to remove existing, make good and repaper, with paper suplied by me. Is this a reasonable charge, and if not what should I be looking at?

I know plumbers and electricians rates are high, but what I wanted to know was whether or not this was a good price for a painter/decorator

There aren't any expensive decorators.
There are expensive solicitors....plumbers...double glazers..accountants...pen pushers.....councillors....doctors....cosmetic surgeons.............

Just ask for someone to do it on an hourly rate.
That way you can set your stop watch and see how much you've saved on the free estimate you were given.

I was at a funeral recently when someone who looked as if he had never done a strenuous and tricky task in his whole life was scoffing at the very thought of paying above £8-00 an hour for a Polish Decorator/Plumber/Brickie.

Check out how many days the estimate/quote covers and then decide if that represents a fair per day payment when all hours, materials and overhead costs are taken into account.

Personally I would bite his hand off, no, second thoughts, he needs two... :

Seriously, I think thats a very fair price, I take it, he's supplying everything else if your only supplying the paper.

Dont forget cause there is a dado involved he is doing twice the papering, cutting, hanging and so forth.

You're looking at minimum two days and thats only if the walls are in good nick and they're well experienced at hanging paper, also you don't mention if they're doing the woodwork.

Price-wise its only just on the borderline for me and I'm in N.E. Scotland.

Is the person who priced it a pro?..is he a swiss roll?...on the sick?..desperate?

Personally it sounds too cheap for essex..id guess you could stick another 70 quid on that price.

But for us to say on here we might as well put a load of prices in a pot and pull one out

Get a couple more quotes..dont go for the cheapest...middle...dearest..go fo the one who sounds like he knows what hes doing and you are happy to have in your house
