Hi, I'm having a new mains connection made to a new house.

Anybody got any experience of the prices involved?

I'm in the North West and the prices I've been quoted are between approx £4000 and £2300 depending on the delivery mode (overhead, underground etc.). This seems a lot compare to new gas and water connections - £300 and £600 respectively.

The house isn't anywhere unusual - it's a mid terrace and the front of the house is about 3 meters back from the main road!

Any experience or opinions?

You might save a bit if you or your builder offer to dig and refill the trench and lay the duct.

i belive you have the right to request a full breakdown of the costs marked as to whether the items are "contestable" or not. Then you can arrange the bulk of the work yourself (you will have to work to thier standards though).

I have had the same experience , the outcome was that the price was sky high because the 'supply' cable was in such a place that the road had to be closed off, the cost of disruptions and diversions added up to @£4250. I was told that eight months down the line the road was to be turned into a cul-de-sac and the work would cost @£2000.
