Price of a sheet of 18mm chipboard about £6.50
Price of a sheet of 18mm mdf £8.70.
Difference of £2.20 per 8' x 4' sheet.
Therefore your kitchen would need to be made from 2,500 sheets to make a price difference of £5,500!
MDF is superior to chipboard but it's not worth spending all that extra.

Difference between melamine faced chipboard & melamine faced MDF is nearer £6.00 a sheet but you would still need a lot of sheets to get to what the salesman says.
Most of the cost is usually in the doors & accessories like plinths, pelmets & cornices.
