cost of quote for replace of old radiators for newer ones li

I will attempt to explain to you flozz in simple english why you will have trouble in getting a rough quote on these forums.
First off the people that are likely to give you a quote will be plumbers and they dont like you shopping around for prices or checking the price that you have been given (please note this is allowed only if you are buying or hiring anything else in the world ;) ) so while one may charge you at a rough guess somewhere in the region of £200 for a straight swap and possibly going up to £300 if further minor work is needed to fit the rads, you might get quoted £400+ but this acceptable because plumbers have the hardest job in the world and have to work all hours to make ends meet so its perfectly acceptable for them to try and rip you off and you shouldnt question this (isnt there a law about doing so ?) as the rest of us sit around in comfy offices all day and clear £1000 a week, so yeah ask a dumb question expect a dumb answer.

A straight rad swap goes something like this.

Drain system
Cover floors/carpets
Remove rads
Measure and mark for new holes
Drill new holes
Fix the mountings to the wall
Fix radiators to wall and reconnect
Refill system and bleed the rads
Run system to check if everything is ok
But life is never so simple so expect there to be extra work that needs doing.

If you have any good diy skills you could do it yourself, as for time i would say if you plan what your doing a day and a half should be enough for a simple switch over, refill and check but it could take less time depending on how good you are at doing such things.
My advice if you cant or dont want to carry out the work would be to look for a wet plumber as you dont need a 24/7 emergency corgi plumber to carry out this work and it could be the difference between £18-£20 per hour or £50-£100 per hour.

Drain system
Easy if there are drain off somewhere, other wise the price will go up

Cover floors/carpets
It depends what we use, dust sheets cheap, plastic carpet protector will cost you more.

Remove rads
Easy If they are not screwed to batons buried in lime mortar. If they are then pay up for removing batons and re plastering.

Measure and mark for new holes
Ok thats an easy one

Drill new holes
Fix the mountings to the wall
Easy on brick/block wall. If its old lime mortar and stone walls or lath & plaster then we will charge you more.

Fix radiators to wall and reconnect
No doubt the rads will be imperial therefore the pipe work need altering, get the wallet out again

Refill system and bleed the rads
Might take 15-30 mins or it might take all day on a poorly designed system fed from F&E. By now we would have to run you to a cash point (we charge less than a taxi cab)

Run system to check if everything is ok.
In your dreams, coz we would not have bothered quoting for the work in the 1st place.

But life is never so simple so as heating engineers we learn to expect there to be extra work that always needs doing.

as i said gremlin life is never so simple.
I think a rough quote based around everything being fairly easy going isnt difficult but iam sure the guy could have a look and see if something is different and expect or roughly work out himself how much extra it would cost.
Just one thing though if the system has been drained down there shouldnt be to much of a problem with the choice of floor covering, if the guy uses enough sheets and keeps a towel to hand then there is no reason to panic as long as the old rad is turned upside down before its carried of the protected area ;) .
