I have had an old Gas pipe that was sticking out of the wall cut back and capped off in the wall. I can see the pipe was covered in some kind of tape to protect it, there is now an exposed part of the pipe where some of the tape had to be removed.

What type of tape can I use to cover this, can I use masking tape ot electrical tape or does it have to be something special?

Thanks.

If this pipe is no longer in use then according to the regs it should be capped off at both ends.

If its a gas pipe then it should be protected against corrosion with tape, but if no longer in use for gas pipe then there is no real need to continue protecting it. Normally now with petroleum jelly tape made specifically for the purpose! Used to be with Denso tape!

Thanks, its just capped of at one end, may want to use it again one day. Its only a small section that is uncovered do I have to buy this special denso/petoleum tape or would something like black tape be ok as I already have this or Duct tape?

If the petoleum tape is needed where do you get it from?

Thanks again.

We are not permitted to give DIY gas advice here.

But I agree that it does not seem like a very dangerous scenario.

Unused gas pipes should be capped at BOTH ends!

Thanks I understand that you can't advise on gas matters but I just want to know if have to buy this special tape or I can use some tape I already may have it's only about 10cm of bare pipe. Thanks.
