So, this is what's happened ...
We had an extension built and when I started painting a room I noticed the floor was mainly flat then slopped away. It's a suspended timber floor on the ground floor with 18mm floor panels on it. I got the builder back who tried to convince me the joists has settled. B******s to that. He turned up a few days later with a flooring bloke who looked it over and said he'd put a self leveling compound down. And a week later he did. Fibre based screen all over the 3.4m x 3.6m area. Job done I thought. Next I noticed that the slope hadn't been cured. There was still about a 7mm drop over about 1m. He came back, screwed some 4mm ply down and put a different type of screen down to feather the edges. There's still a noticeable slope but I've had it with the f/wit of a builder.
Now we'll be laying 18mm solid timber flooring down, and there's about 21mm max to play with. The doors can't be trimmed and covering the entire area with ply isn't an option. The room needs to be finished by Christmas.
So, what do I need to do to the floor to make it ready for timber being laid? What I'd like to hear is "mix up some f-ball 700 flex and let it do it's thing" but I suspect someone knowledgeable is going to say something else.
