I need a new chimney cowl as the old one blew off recently. Following advice on here, I contacted several 'gas safe' registered companies for quotations. Each have given their recommendations but I would appreciate some independent advice please.

The chimney is brick, and unlined. When the property was built (1964) it housed an open, solid fuel fire. It is now fitted with an inset decorative gas fire (3kw input I think) that is probably only used a dozen time a year, so minimal downdraught when the fire is not in use is desirable.

So, here are the offerings.

1. A stainless steel cowl inserted and cemented in to the existing chimney pot. This is what I had before that blew off, so I'm not so keen on this.

2. Removing the existing pot and replacing it with a stainless steel cowl cemented in place.

3. A DFE complete pot replacement
