Just moved into a new house with a lovely stove installed, only to realise the previous occupants had destroyed the thing by burning green wood with cracked firebricks, leading to the stove door cracking in one corner. It's not an enormous crack, but it's enough to break the seal.

I have been trying to get a blacksmith to repair it, but was wondering if there were any DIY solutions in the mean time, like using high temperature fire/furnace cement?

I think its far too risky. Either get a new door or new high efficiency stove. It something falls off your stove at 300c you will be beside yourself with manic activity! Old stoves are dangerous because they have usually been abused and not maintained. (Its my business, hetas installer)
