Hi,

We recently bought a new house in Nov. Over the past few months I've noticed (in addition to alot of hairline cracks in plaster) some odd gaps and cracks appearing on our skirting boards.

Firstly there are gaps appearing between joins on the skirting, and secondly on some stretches of skirting there are actual cracks (ive never seen this before?).

Any ideas on what might be the reason and best way to fix it?

Thanks

Chris

Just timber drying out nothing to worry about, leave it for a year or so then fill but joints like that have a habit of reappearing as timber moves with the seasons.
Butt joins on timber almost impossible to stop but against the plaster use a flexible decorators mastic which is paintable.

Cjrearl84, good evening.

If a "new" house is there not some sort of snagging period ?

Apart from that footprints above is spot on. thermal and moisture movement of timber, it goes on for a long time.

Ken.
