Our zanussi zwf1020 washing machine has started to make a crackling sound when on a normal wash cycle. The noise stops once the machine starts to spin. Everything seems to be working fine and we have checked the drum and filter. Any ideas gratefully received! Thank you.

thank you for the advice - however, I'm a bit of a washing machine novice - any chance of further details of what/how I should check for the suggested problems? thank you!

The Brushes are on the motor (a pair of them screwed onto one end opposite the motor pully) held on by 2 cross point or Torx screws

They should be longer than 10mm and the commutator (the segmented part of the motor they touch) should be free from damage

The crackling of the brushes (if that is what the noise is) is caused by the brushes being worn and arcing against the commutator, if allowed to continue the motor could be damaged and the electronics can fail 'proving to be costly'

Zanussi are not the simplest to check though.

or turn lights, out tip mc back and watch for the blue light show underneath.

Hi

Had a similar thing happen If it happens just before the spin could be something stuck in the drain pump. You will have to open back and remove hoses of pump, Not a huge job

thanks for the advice everyone - was something stuck in the pump in the end so all sorted now and machine is back to normal. Thanks again :)
