There is a crack running from the corner of the upper bedroom window to the bay at the front, it hasnt moved since I bought the property seven years ago, but doesnt look too pretty. There is also one , a smaller one running on the opposite angle. The cracks follow the mortar and do not split bricks. I have just noticed that on the inside a small tear has appeared in the wall paper, mirroring the mortar crack outside. Last year I had a structural engineer look and he seemd to think that the outside cracks were historical and so of no immeadiate threat. I am about t o have the windows replaced, and am concerned that I may be causing greater problems. Does anyone have any advice??

Without seeing it but reading from your post, there are million of homes that have cracks from the corner of window as it's the weakest point and very well known. I have 3 hairline cracks from the corner of the windows. The only time you got to worry is when you see thru the other side! Just make good to the crack and keep an eye on it. It has got nothing to do with the weight of the window.
