We are just about to decorate but at the side of our staircase there is a crack in the plaster all the way up. Its a relatively new house and I cant see any obvious huge movement in the stairs. Is there something I could use to fill the crack before we paint? Do I need to get it re-plastered? The cracks aren't huge but I would just like to make it look neater...

Thanks for any help you can give me

most modern house are thrown together in weeks so nothing has time to dry.

as a result staircases often shrink a few mm's over the first year.

get some decorators caulk or filler to fill small cracks, sand once dry and apply a mist coat of paint to prep ready for proper paint job.

A length of wooden quadrant beading (small), pinned/stuck onto the stair stringer will sort the problem too.

Roughcaster.
