Just bought a new house had the basic survey like a berk on a internal wall I have a crack right tho it was under some very old paper just wondering if it's dangerous and why the best course of action to take is? It's about 50 years old a bungalow

The only thing it's exactly the same the other side of the wall? It's an internal wall where it meets the external a builder said the bottom half ties may have failed and caused a shift the bungalow is early 60s and looks fairly sound everywhere else

As you have no idea how long it's been there, I would really just fill it and see if it comes back. I'm just a DIYer, but I've seem much worse cracks that were nothing structural.

If it comes back, then I agree it might warrant a bit more of an examination.

Even through it's going straight though the wall I have fixed w load of metal straps around the crack and the front wall and cemented it to going to be skimmed anyway just concerned as it seemed to be coming straight trough

I have no doubt that more experienced fellows will chime in to alleviate your fears - or tell you to get anything you love out of the house. ;)

Even if it's going all the way through, I'd just keep an eye on the spot. It's no bigger on one end that the other, and it is pretty thin. Was the wallpaper old?

Fair enough then; as I said I personally wouldn't be concerned, but I'm sure someone else will chime in if they think differently.

Most buildings with cracks, they mark them and monitor.

You could chip the loose paint away, fill and paint. Then monitor it.

You can buy paint which you can paint over a ceiling, and it will cover the cracks. Unsure on the quality, however i noticed it as we have similar cracks through thermal expansion of the timber frame part of the house.
