Hi
I have a light in my loft that when I when I go in the loft I have to have the light lead hanging down from the loft hatch and plugged into a socket on the landing.
What I am after doing is to have a switch just inside the loft so I dont have to have a lead hanging out of the hatch.
How can I do this?
Any help greatly appreciated.

In your loft, you will probaly find cables for your upstairs lights. Find a cable which is permanently live (not switched).
You can extend this with a junction box and a switch to provide a loft light.
Look at //www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:lighting

You could:
a) connect both the light and switch at a junction box,
b) take a cable from JB to a switch, and then onto your lamp fitting, or
c) take a cable from JB to a ceiling rose and connect the switch to that.

... depends on where you want the switch, the light, and where you find a convenient cable.

While dong the work, you will be very thankful of the light supplied by the dangling cable - maybe keep it there while you install the new one! (and afterwards)
