Crimp Connectors

a butt connector is safe for the same current as the cable that fits it.

You can get them with a heat-shrink sleeve attached, which does a nice job. Practice doing a few crimps on scrap cable to get your hand in. Pull on them quite hard, they must not come apart. Use the proper ratchet crimper, not the lightweight one as used on car electrics.
