Crimps or Terminal Block?

Hi everyone

This query stems from a previous one.

I need to extend some wires in a wall mounted gang box so as to be able to connect them to the face plate - the advice is that whilst not ideal this is still ok to do.

The general opinion seems to be that crimps are better and are more permanent, all of which makes sense. Some members however have mentioned about the risk of crimps overheating if not properly connected and I find this slightly worrying.

With this in mind, is it safer to use terminal block, or are there any steps I can take to make the crimping safe?

Any advice would be appreciated

Regards

terminal blocks are just as likely to overheat if not connected properly, as are the terminals in the socket itself..

use a proper ratchet crimp tool and not one of the "multi" crimp tools they sell at car part stores amongst other places..

( see other crimp / cable extension posts for pictures and details.. )

Ok - crimps it is - thanks for that

AFAIK Wiring Regs do not recognise push in connectors as a permanent joint.
These push fit connectors may be OK where you can inspect them if needed, but the same is true of a bit of terminal block.
