Hi,

I have an airlock in my hot water pipe. I am soon going to change the bathroom taps for mixer shower taps. While doing this, could I connect the cold water pipe to the hot water one and force the airlock out with the cold water?

Also, should I fit a one way valve onto the hot water pipe somewhere near the shower mixer ? (I recall from my last house that the cold water was much higher in pressure than the hot, and it could be a pain trying to set a decent temp for the shower, so I wondered if a one way valve would prevent this issue) ?

Thanks,

Gary

No - a non-return valve will merely prevent backflow of the hot water, rather than achieve what you want, which is to equalise the pressure.

You'll need to fit either a valve that will cope with the different pressures, or a pressure reducing valve (aka pressure limiting valve) to the cold supply.

Hi know this post is old but to clarify what is needed is a non return check valve to be placed on the cold water to stop the airlock, I think question was related to this question.
