Curtain pole installation

I have a curtain pole above the window and the middle bracket Is not fitted. Because of the steel above the window the screws don’t go in. Will I need to get a wooden long piece and then put the brackets on the wood? If so, what wood is recommended? Would I be able to purchase it from retailers?

A bit of 50 x 25 planed timber would do.

it’s actual size is about 45 x 20 - just think enough to hold screws for the curtain pole

Are those measurements in CM? I don’t have much space to work with. I have attached a picture of the area in which the wood can go onto.

The width of the window is 116cm. And the height from the edge to the ceiling is 7cm.

Why not just drill into the steel? a decent HSS drill bit will make a hole.

The measurements are in mm so the height of the bit of wood is 45mm (a bit less than two inches) it sticks out from the wall 20mm (a bit less than one inch) and it is as long as you need it to be (the length of the pole).

Its worked. I used the the drill bits and it managed to make a hole. Thanks everyone

The 6 top drills in the case are for wood only.
The middle 6 are for masonry/brickwork only.
The remaining bottom drills are called 'Twist bits' and are suitable for most materials except masonry/brickwork. They are 'usually' used in metal but are also often used in wood, plastic, plasterboard etc but not glass/ceramic/pottery type of things.
