We're having some custom cabinets build for our bathroom. We'd like them finished in a high gloss white, like you can get for kicthens. At the moment we have 2 possible suggestions:

1. Buy kitchen cabinet doors and filler panels and design around this.

2. Make the whole thing up in MDF and get it spray painted at the local car body shop.

I really know nothing about this stuff so would be very grateful for any advice that was offered as to which was the best route to take.

Thanks,

Marc

1. Kitchen doors tend to be the wrong sizes, if you know the right places to go then you can buy just the bathroom furniture doors without the excessively high cost of bathroom carcases. Or several of the replacement door suppliers on the web will make doors in custom sizes for a small extra charge.

2. A car body sprayer with experience in MDF and the right paint will give good results, there are also companies that specialise in spraying MDF, Google should turn up something. If you go down this route make sure your doors are made from MR (moisture resistant) MDF.

What part of london are you in?

Thanks for the reply Jason. I am going to a car body shop this weekend and they say they have sprayed MDF before. I'll take some offcuts to see if they are right.

Thanks for the suggestion on MR MDF too, I'll make sure I try to use that as it's for a bathroom.

I'm in SE London.

Not my work but take a look at this thread, it gives an idea of the paints used, number of coats and the rubbing down & buffing required to get a mirror finish.
