I need to replace a damaged bidet with one that has a slightly larger ‘footprint’. This will require the carpet (a fairly deep pile) to be cut to accommodate the new shape base.

In order to make a clean cut would a Stanley knife be the best tool here or should I obtain a proper carpet cutting knife? Also, is it best to simply cut around the new bidet once it is secured in place or should this be done beforehand?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not a carpet fitter but I've watched my professional carpet fitter mate lay all my carpets over the years and he always uses a robust stanley knife with a sharp/new blade. Also normally when the fitting gets done the bidet would be in place so I'd say cut it after.

Still to complete this work as the owner is away. Is possible to secure the gripper pieces to the tiled base by using Gripfil (or something similar) or should they be screwed down?

Gripfill will work though carpet fitters favour a hot glue gun for hard surfaces as it allows instant fix. Shame to carpet over tiles, unhygienic to have carpet.

Smaller pieces of gripper to follow the contours of the bidet and larger gap to allow the carpet to be tucked down the side of the pan.

Carpet in any toilet/bathroom - yuk :o

Thanks for the advice, guys. Agree with your sentiments re carpets in the bathroom. A pretty rank idea all round, I reckon.
