I know theres a tool for this like a giant pipe cutter on a ratchet/chain but i cant remember its name can any one help, also where will i be able to hire on an d how much will it cost roughly.

Ive got a job to price for replacing the bottom half of a soil stack (cast iron) and installing a downstairs loo inc small basin. My plan is to replace the hole bottom half with black plastic (top half is already plastic) but i will need the tool to cut it then add an adaptor to plastic. Any help appreciated ;)

If you are replacing the bottom section of the stack why not remove it completly from the ground connection and install plastic?

Because the bottom half is going straight into concrete theres no collars etc at the bottom of the stack.

Timmy - why not use a 9" angle grinder?

The soil stack is right in the corner of a small confined toilet area inside a boxing, my plan was to fully remove all the boxing and get the cutters as low as i could to cut the cast iron out.

The soil stack is tight into a corner that kinda rules out the angle grinder theory ;) .

Dont get involved too much in drainage but Is that big chain cutter not just for clay pipes not sure only seen it used once

I think i'll try the mechanical option first if it goes tlts up i'll cut it as square as i can with a hacksaw then bang an adaptor on ;) .
