Just about to change my copper cylinder which is lagged to a more modern foamed cylinder. Currently I have a stat which is strapped to the cylinder. I was just wondering how a stat works on the new cylinder. I don't think I can use my strap stat as that would be like strapping it on the outside of my lagged cylinder.

Grateful for any advice.

Cut through foam to copper or stainless steel cylinder and remove "plug" same size and form as thermostat body.

Be careful with the cutting, particularly if copper. A Stanley knife blade used too vigorously can pierce the copper.

Thermostat should be fitted about 1/3 of the way up the cylinder from the base.
