boiler kicking in and heating water on demand but when full temperature is reached and held for a short time[20secs approx]burner cuts out and water goes almost cold before burner kicks back in.Secondary heat exchanger has been taken out and cleaned as has temperature sender but still no better,servicing manual says it could be the gas valve or p.c.b can anyone help.

No point cleaning the sensor ,replace it. Also how did you clean the plate heat exchanger it is no use just washing it out as this doesn`t get it clean. It is usually one of the 2 faults you think it is
The plate heat exchanger was cleaned by washing it through under a tap for about 20min and there was a fare amount of black fine deposits that came away.The d.h.w temperature dial is definitely working as i turned it down to minimum and the water was heated acordingly plus the burner remained ignited at all times,doyou think that the safety thermostat could be u/s or do you think that there are still enough deposits of sludge in the plate heat exchanger to prevent an effective heat transfer and cause the safety stat to kick in and repeatedly.
running a DHW plated HE uder the tap does not constitute cleaning it,in fact you would have probably done better by waving a magic wand at it
I would suggest that you change it
well some powerflushing machine makers do do an attachment to clean them but IMHO i think your are best of changing it and whacking a boiler buddy or a magna clean on the return

You could take it off and fill it with ferroquest for a few hours then flushing it , repeat couple of times , it may work depending how bad it is.. If not new plate is around 70 quid

Done it for a mate that was genuinely stoney so freebie. It worked but it was not too bad. As you say CM the the waterways are very narrow and if bad would prob not work. ok susan. seeing as it`s thursday

Because it is not getting rid of its heat into the water that passes through it to the taps.. so boiler gets too hot and shuts down

Make sure it is has the same amount of plates as the one coming out.. The one from 80e fits but is thinner ( less plates)
