damage to oak veneer - how to repair?

Hi all,

I've been fitting the latches to some oak veneer doors, done a few perfectly then got a bit lazy/careless and managed to punch right through when drilling one of the lever through bolt holes.

it's pushed the veneer away as you can see. Fortunately most of the damage will be hidden under the rose after it's repaired but what's the best way to repair?

I'm thinking try to inject some glue underneath the lifted veneer, clean up as much as possible then solidly clamp with something hard and smooth to it that the glue won't stick to, then rub it back when dry.

What glue would you use for this to avoid discolouring the oak veneer? normal PVA? I'm putting Osmo oil on these doors later if that makes a difference.

Cover with masking tape to prevent sticking , if the tape does get stuck it sands away easier.

PVA overnight... or you could use mitre fast, it sets in seconds, spray one face, then use a cocktail stick to apply the glue to the other face... then just lightly sand of any residue... slap on the osmo.

I agree with @Mr Chibs for veneer repairs Mitre Mate is your friend! It takes seconds and unlike PVA there is no risk of glue squeeze-out damaging the surfaces or clogging the open pores
