I have used a limescale remover in my brother's new bathroom, rying to be helpful, and have damaged all the taps. The limescale remover called harpic 100% limescale remover seems to have striped the chrome plate leaving a mottling effect. Does anyone know anything that will be able to polish this out? The bath tap is a fountain type at the area of the bath that cannot be reached without causing enormous problems. The repair would need to be done in situ for this tap. The other can be replaced (at great expense) but the bath is a big problem. Help!

It seems you're not alone (ref your other post).
Normal limescale remover doesn't usually damage chrome, but clearly this stuff is more agressive.
Does it state "do not use on chrome" on the label?
I must remember never to buy the stuff.

You have my sympathies.

Any chance of a photo? (Of the taps I mean)

Our bathroom taps were new and my husband also thought he was being helpful and tarnished the taps badly with toilet limescale remover.

After consulting sites on the internet I thought that the damage was irreversible but I found a metal polish today that removed the mottled appearance. It is called Autosol Metal Polish and it removes corrosion, tarnish, oxidation, rust and discolouration from Chrome, Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Brass, Copper and many other surfaces including plastic and fibreglass. (DURSOL-FABRIK www.autosol.de).

What a relief - I don't need to call the plumber and pay for new taps.
