We have recently moved house to an older house which needs a bit of work doing. We have to do the more important things firsr because of our budget

There is a damp patch on the chimneybreast in the spare room. Is there anything we can after stripping off the paper, paint it with or coat it with to hold it in check and stop it getting anyworse until a bulider can cure it in the spring

cant really comment with no pics but prevention is better than cure.if its coming from outside, its pointless trying to stop it on the inside.

i have had the same problem and done the cheapest thing first, fit an air vent to chimney breast inside room and if exterior of breast is in an entry or outer wall fit an air brick in to allow chimney to let air flow instead of moisture and damp to be trapped.
