Hi all,

I did ask a question a while ago regarding damp proofing...

My daughter bought an old cottage back in December. It's got
thick solid stone walls, and she was told by the surveyor to
have a damp proof course done. After seeking advice on this
forum, the general opinion was that it would be a waste of
time. There's no visible damp on any of the external walls,
so we decided to leave it alone.

Now then, a new neighbour has moved in to an identical
cottage next door, and they've just had a damp proof course
done. This has made my daughter think "shall I get mine
done as well?" ....so, she's now asking me what to do.

On the cottage next door, all the damp proof people have
done, is drill a row of small holes, and fill them with some
white foam stuff .....what is it, and what is it supposed to
do ? Does the white foam go hard, and then absorb any
damp ? When you look at how thick the walls are, and then
look at these tiny drill holes, it makes me wonder if these
holes full of foam will make any difference.

I could understand it if the walls had a cavity to fill with foam,
but in all honesty I can't see what these drill holes will achieve.

Can anyone advise ?

Thanks in advance

Yorkie, with respect, you were asked in March 05 a number of questions ref. this same property and essentially the same inquiry. You did not answer a single question and yet you expect respondents to donate time and knowledge when you will not even help yourself by answering a few simple queries.
What others do is there business but i think that i will pass on to more rational posts.
