Drilling into damp proof membrane

Checked and the bricks should be about £50.

I will look into what is involved. I might just pay my local builder to do it for me though - not sure I fancy my first ever wall to be part of the house.

Whoa there - this wall isn't structural is it? That's a whole different kettle of fish. :eek:
 
Yes and No.
It was/is structural, but has an RSJ in it.
The wall I'll be building will be to replace some wooden french doors, so it shouldn't be supporting anything.
 
In that case this would be an ideal first wall, because a garden one would be ornamental, and any other would be structural. :)

for an internal abutted wall use stainless steel wall starters.

always use dpc even off a membraned floor.

use lightweight airated blocks, celcon, thermalite or similar.
