Damp wall along sink waste pipe

Hi, just wondered if the following problem is a common one:

My bathroom sink's wastewater pipe (looks lead-based) has been 'chased' into the base of the wall and runs to the back of the house exiting into a drain. The wall is a bit damp along the 2 metre run of this pipe and it has affected the kitchen on the other side of the wall (what gives it away is that the damage to plaster starts exactly where the pipe starts).

I would have thought that if it was a burst pipe the damp would be in one place only. Could the lead be attracting condensation? Should it be replaced with plastic?

Not sure if I'm imagining correctly what you have, but is rain water running down the external face of the wall and not being able to run past behind the pipe. The water then finding its way into the 'chase'. If so I would either prise the pipe run away from the wall, or run new plastic pipe with suitable pipe clips, having made good the chase.

Yes you can change the lot for a few quid!
