I've got a damp patch in the hallway of my house, extends maybe 30cm maximum from the floor, when I say damp i mean the paint has started to flake off in a couple of places.
Over the weekend I knocked out a brick directly behind the offending area to add an airbrick, anyhow, I've not got airflow through the cavity.
When I removed the brick loads of dirt/rubble poured out, must be at least 4 courses of bricks high with dirt, I've started clearing it out but its hard going.
Just wondering if this dirt is likely to be my cause of the damp? I looked down the cavity with a torch and a mirror and notice along the top of all this dirt the bricks seem to have a tide mark of salt where the dirt came up to.
