I've stripped an Ercol chest of drawers, made from solid elm, with mahogany or sapele draws, and I need to refinish it. I want a light oak finish i.e. with some brown colour, but not dark (yuck), which highlights the grain. I've used Colron Danish Oil in light oak, which is nice, as a first coat, followed by plain DO.
Are there any alternatives to Danish Oil? I don't want to use an acrylic or polyurethane finish, I don't like them, I want something that gives a natural polished wood look whilst adding some colour, and highlighting grain.
Has anyone used Polyx Hard Wax Oil on furniture? Apparently it is vegetable oils and Carnauba wax, the latter being very hard. Presumably you can apply a top coat of wax to give a nice shine? My concern is that it sets hard, and when used on floors you use a power polisher, which cannot be used on furniture.
