Decimalisation

ffs, theres even two versions of the imperial system???? How ridiculous. This is why the metric system is better, theres much less ambiguity. A metre is 100cm. a cm is 10mm. There's 1000mm in a metre. centi = 1/100, milli = 1/1000, kilo = 1000, mega = 1,000,000, etc.

I know approximate imperial measures, for example there's roughly 3 foot 3 inches to the metre. There's roughly 4.5 litres to the gallon

(of course oil will always be traded by the gallon because America is its biggest user  )

And every measure is traceable back to its Standard Internationele - SI - form by simple division and multiplication and taking or adding 0's to it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI

mlb3c, I agree cups etc are easier when baking! My Grandma used to bring baking books back from America, and she had to bring us some cup measures too! Much better than using weighing scales etc.

My Gran used to measure things by tablespoons (1 tbsp= 1 oz).

And by sight - looking at a pat of butter & saying, well, that's going to be 6 oz...

And it was always supremely edible... Yum Yum!

Hello All,
Just out of interest, we have managed to keep our lb's, but how long will the other £ last ? Will we change to the Euro, and how many yrs away  ??
