Afternoon all,
Just contacted a steel company for a quote for an RSJ for my single storey extension. I sent over the plans hoping to receive a quote back and was greeted with this response:
"Thanks for the plans below however we aren’t allowed to read from drawings as have no training to do so. If you are able to supply me a steel list of what is required I can price from this."
I am hoping someone can help me work through the jargon from the image attached. I know the span of the beam is 3400mm
From what I gather there are two options:
1: A pair of 203x133x25 one for each wall with a 150x90 C channel running between them running the entire length (3400mm) bolted to one of the I beams with M16 bolts every 500mm from its centre across the length of the beam.
I'm lost at the mention of 12mm thk full depth stiffeners and I'm not sure about the 'bolted 6mm f.w." means either
2 A single 203x203x46 I beam with a centrally welded 10mm thick top plate to support the wall.
With this option, I do not understand what 'hit and miss f.w' is referring to. I presume the width of the top plate is the same width as the cavity wall? Why is there no mention of a bottom plate? As my cavity walls are 100/100/100 (300mm total) that surely means the bottom of the I beam is only resting on 52mm of each wall leaf - is that correct?
If someone could let me know if my assumptions are correct or i am missing something I would be grateful so that I can reply with a steel list to the steel company.
Any help appreciated. Plans were drawn before Covid - SE company no longer trading so can't ask for help there.
