Depth of carpet grippers and underlay height

Hi. Am I right in thinking that typical carpet gripper strips are 11mm deep?

If so, how much does it matter how deep the underlay is compared with that? Will any of 8, 9 or 10mm unerlay work ok? I imagine so, since the rise of the carpet over the grippers will then be at most 2mm.

BUT, over time as the underlay perhaps compresses, does that reveal a ridge around the edge of the room where the carpet is up over the grippers?

I'd also like to know how it works with the door gripper strip (already in place). This has essentially no depth off the floor, maybe 1 or 2mm at most, so compared with the 11mm or so of the wooden gripper strips the carpet will surely plunge down at the door line, being supported only by the underlay's depth?

I hope it's clear what I'm asking.

Thanks!

The gripper is closer to 6mm deep.

Thick underlays cause carpet to 'plunge' deeper over gripper and door bars.

You can buy raised edge door profiles that help bridge some of the difference and are specifically designed to be used with thicker underlays.

Thanks. If I use a typical 8-10mm underlay will I be alright, probably? I never see this issue discussed or mentioned in tutorials, which makes me think it isn't usually a problem.
