hi,

unfortunately have an Ideal C24 boiler that is not pumping out much hot water. luke warm at best. have been told that heat exchanger is scaled up and can be de-scaled for abour £200 all in, £270 for new. is this overly expensive?

can ayone tell me if its worth getting fixed as i hear these boliers go wrong after a few years. its been in the house for 7 years.

unfortunately spent money to get external pressure tank (cant remember correct name for it) fitted as they said that was problem initially as boiler kept loosing prssure and shutting off initially however now the hot water isnt working properly.

i just want to be as sure as possible that i don't keep shelling out and the problem is not solved.

any advice appreciated

Marcus

If you mean the plate heat exchanger then thats expensive. If you are capable then removing and cleaning or replacing that part is relatively simple. 2 screws hold it in position. If you have the MI's then all is in there.
There is a bit of dismantling to do, but quite simple and does not involve any gas carrying parts. If you are not confident then shop around.

This is a perfectly reliable boiler compared with similar makes.

The prices you are being quoted are rather high and I dont know how people get away with them. About 47% higher!

Run hot water and if the temp gauge goes above 65 C then it indicates the plate HE is rather blocked. Very blocked if its over 80 C.

yes, I do mean plate heat exchanger. Thanks. went to the property again today and trued hot water. the kitchen hot tap seems fine. very hot but its right next to the boiler so makes sense.

bathroom is on end of kitchen downstairs so hot tap for both i would also expect to feel quite hot but its only luke warm.

would that happen if plate heat exchanger is scaled up?

@Agile, if i saw your post earlier i would have done what you said but left the property before you posted.

anyone know of quality plumbers in South Norwood/croydon area?
