Descaling a hot water tap boiler - help

Hi everyone.

I'm new here and looking for some help.

I have a boiling water tap which is second hand and has been used without any form of descaler filter for some time. I am trying to descale the boiler that comes with it. But in a safe way that will ensure it is okay to still use as a drinkable boiling tap.

I was wondering how I might go about this

It's a grohe red.

I attach photos here. It is fully built but I can take it apart for ease. I attach photos of what it looks like intact and what it looks like apart

I had considered boiling water in a kettle, adding Citric acid and pouring it into the water in valve. Till the boiler is full and just letting it sit by capping the pipes and then flushing 3 or 4 times by running the tap letting it fill and boil then flushing again.



Is there any other suggestions?

I use a descaler in our Saniflo a couple of times a year. At the same time I always use a little of the same stuff to clean out the kettle. I normally finish it off with some white wine vinegar and then rinse and boil several times before using. Works for me. Mrs Mottie always uses white wine vinegar to descale the tap in the downstairs loo and the shower head. She wraps them in kitchen roll and soaks them in vinegar.

Sorry should have mentioned I'm trying to descale the boiler tank itself . But trying to do it safely as it will house hot drinking water after

Phosphoric acid, available as commercial kitchen descaler for bain marie's etc. Supposedly food safe.
