descaling

i have a standard three bed house, and a potterton suprima 80 i have a noisy system bangs and the such like, a friend recommended a plummer, and he has said the the system which is 10 years old needs descaling the price that he has quoited is £180.00 is this a fair price and what does descaling mean and do to the system.

You can look up about descaling using your browser, but £180 seems a reasonable price. Depends on how it's done.
