Difference between paste the wall and normal paper

Is there a difference? Is there any reason why you couldn't paste the wall and use a 'normal' wall paper?

I'm a bit of novice at hanging paper, the only time I've done it was with paste the wall and it worked really well. Now SWMBO has chosen a conventional paper and I was wondering if it would be possible to use it the 'paste the wall' way. Its not a heavy paper or anything just the common patterned type.....

Normal wallpaper needs time to expand and this cant be done on the wall. if subsequent peices were put on then the joints would push each other as they expand and lift. Thw paste the wall paper is a vinyl paper and will not expand any more so can be put straight on.
