Hi. Mother in law now finds it difficult to turn on / off her outside tap, is there a way i can ease the inner workings or is there an alternate solution to a standard T handle. Thank you all.
Outside taps have to put up with all sorts of weather, and that will show eventually, especially as most seem to be built down to a price.
Cleaning, lubricating and adjusting the gland nut just below the tap handle may help ease the tap. Even a drop of WD40 may show benefits. The gland nut should be just tight enough to stop water leaking around the shaft, but not so tight that the gland packing binds on the shaft.
Maybe it's time to replace the tap washer?
Seen some 'tap handle extenders for difficult to turn taps' from JML or the like in the DIY sheds.
Or the lump of wood with two nails in it to use as a spanner.......
had this with a customer last week she had arthritis in her hands so i placed a full boar lever valve before the tap and just left the tap open.she was pleased as punch.as it worked a treat for her.
