We currently have a Fluorescent tube light in the kitchen (it's a T8, White 58W , 5Ft tube).

It's suddenly started to glow dimmer. So first question is is it the tube or somehting else?

Next question is that the Kitchen is typically quite dark as it has no external windows, is it ok to put a birighter tube in and does brighter mean getting the same wattage but a different colour if so what colours are brighter?

any help much appreciated.

The tubes do start to dull as they age.You can not fit a larger wattage to a 5ft fitting (58 or 60 W max)
You could try a new lamp possibly of the cool white (can't remember the K no.) but this will give a very crisp white light compared to others.

What might help is buying a longer, high frequency fitting. These drive the tubes at a much higher frequency, and eliminate flickering. They also make the tube last longer by having a rapid start function, and are very quiet.

Burn the tube in for 24-48 hours when you fit it.
