Dimmer for Standard Lamp

I have a standard lamp that has a foot operated on/off switch. I have seen other lamps that have a dimmer built into the switch (on a halogen uplighter I think). Are they available to buy anywhere? A quick Google didn't come up with anything. The lamp has 3 X 40 watt bulbs btw.
