Dimmer getting hot

Because the ones that say they don't need derating have already been derated

i make 600w dimmers, i sell them for £9.99 each (not suitable for halogens)

i also make 300w dimmers i sell them for £10.99 (suitable for halogens)


same dimmer, just derated, and i make £1 more


please note i dont really make dimmers

well what about this?

I have two identical circuits with 10 50w halogens on each, they are both on 600w dimmers each.

One of the dimmers is fine, the other is getting very hot!

How come?

One of those dimmers is rated for 600W before de-rating while the other is rated for 600w after de-rating...

So is it dangerous or will it just burn dimmer out?

They look funny when they melt...
