I've bought a dimmer switch to replace The normal switch in my Kitchen I have the right spec lights The instructions say I'm to attach the Neutral wire (Black) to the L1 and the Live wire (Red) To C but in the normal switch I currently have the Red is in L1 & Black in Com. Who's got it wrong ? My electrician or my Switch instructions ?

if the dimmer switch instructiona are as you say then they have it wrong, because black is not neutral, it is a switched live.

to answer your question it makes no diiference, but "just in case" put colours where instructions say, but it really doesnt matter with an ordainairy on / off switch
