Dimmer switch

You can't break a dimmer switch by connecting it via L1 & L2, as one of those is always completely isolated - pressing the knob toggles a mechanical switch to direct the dimmed output to L1 or L2.

Might be worth trying C & L2.

Thank you all for your help. Took switch back to shop and swapped it for new one. Wired it (C and L1 oh and earth) and it works.
