Dirty socket box internals

Was quite suprised at the state of this (house is 25 years old).

Thick layer of dust and muck over everything inside the box (in addition to the couple of bits of plaster that fell in when I pulled it forward).

Was wondering how much of a hazard that much dust is.

Others may have different experiences (and certainly a lot more experience), but mine has been that 'dry dust' does not usually present a significant hazard. If it did, I think many electrical installations would be in deep trouble!

It is interesting however, my parents house is now 25years old, and its squeeky clean inside, and the plasters not a state....

I've seen thousands like that.

The worst it can do (dry dust at any rate) is to jam up the shutter and switch mechanisms.

WCS, this could cause the socket to burn out due to poor connections between it and the plug, but this is not common.

That is to say, burnt-out sockets are common, but the cause of that being choked with dust is not so. IME, the socket packs up before that happens.
