Hi all

I inherited an Alarm system when i bought the house. I have not really used it/or looked after it. I have had doors changed and not replaced the sensors, and also many of the alarm wires have been pulled up or ripped when i re carpeted (silly really but too late now)

Due to this i plan to remove it shortly and replace with a wireless system or maybe one which will keep me informed via txt/internet (but thats a different question at a different time)

What my question is - How do i disconnect my alarm system? It has gone off a few times when i have turned off the electric for other DIY jobs and the control panel now seems to be unresponsive!

Is they anything i should know before just dismanteling the bloody thing? haha....!

Or should i call a specialist?!?!? :x

The fact it has "gone off" when powering down indicates a dud panel battery. If it is unresponsive now, it may be locked out.

What name is on the CP?

If you are confident working with voltages, you could remove the AC supply, remove the panel cover, and if there is no complaint from the external sounder, try removing wires one by one from the T A D & B terminals.

Does the bellbox squeak?

The CP says Veritas R8, i do have the installation manual somewhere!

The unit in my electrical cupboard has a light on it, which is now RED! I guess this means something is wrong

I wish i had taken more care with the system as i would like to start and use it! but it is quite old and unattractive so a new one will be good (except for expense).

I'm not 100% confident working with voltages, i fitted some wall lights today  but other than that changing a plug is pretty much all i have experiance of. I would give it a go if i had good instruction!

Wired alarms are a security solution.

Wireless alarms are toys that last about as long as the batteries in them.

You should add that to the sticky, along with fire hoods are not mandatory for most installations. :x

i guess your right, not looked into it properly! on face value then they just appear easier to install without having to run wires/lift carpets etc etc... but ill read up and explore the fores and against before i purchase/install ANY new system.

Got to get this old one out first before i look at a new one!... or maybe i should attempt to fix this existing system... have you heard of a veritas V8 before?

I think most of the door sensors are defunct but a couple of motion sensors are still in place.... i could add more on the empty/defunct connections.

Must say, this site is fantastic.... really good threads and people seem really happy to help!

Veritas V8 is a panel manufactured by Texecom.

They are one of the more common domestic panels.

The one you have has now been superseeded by the Veritas R8, but if the panel you have works, it may not be nescassary to replace it. (But a new panel and RKP is only £40+VAT)
