I want to fit an RCBO in my consumer unit and because I'm using 16mm wire because it is a 10.5Kw shower with a long length of cable. I forsee some peroblems manovering the cable ends. I want to disconnect the suply completely from the consumer unit, however I may not get the job done straight away, so I can't afford to have the supply off all the time.

If i approach the Electricity company, I expect they will only come out to turn it off and then once more to turn it on which may be days apart. Is it not something a competant electrician can do himself?

The main fuse is property of the dno which afaik only they are allowed to interfere with. A possibility may be to ask your electrician/dno to install an isolator between the meter and the cu.
