Hello forum,

I have a Neff built-in dishwasher in my kitchen. I think it's about 15 years old but has always worked very well.

Had a drain blockage a few days ago causing the machine to backfill. Anti flood switch seems to have been activated because the drain pump was running and running. I've taken the dishwasher out and tilted it to drain it of water, and it seems now to be working again.

A couple of things are troubling me though (see photos):

Firstly when I take the side panel off and inspect all the gubbins, I can see a load of black crud in one of the plastic pipes (top left corner of the first photo). Wondering where that has come from, what it is, what effect it's having, etc.

Secondly it seems that at some point the mains flex has been squashed against the rear of the casing and got quite hot because it has melted into the plastic material, some of which has stuck to the flex (see the line in the black plastic stuff on the second photo). I don't know what this was caused by, or if it happened a decade ago or yesterday.

Anyone have any thoughts/comments/advice? Given its age I'm reluctant to spend much money on maintenance - if it's showing signs of giving up the ghost I'll just replace it. Had hoped not to have to spend the money (yet) though.

Thanks!

The black crud is above the drain route of the water being pumped out and is a collection of years of muck building up .Unless it leaks from the air vent, top right of the plastic tank
no worries. The black mastic on the back of the dishwasher is for soundproofing and get's soft when hot, the wire has probably been stuck to it since installation and again nothing to worry about.
