I decided to put a thicker jacket on my hot water cylinder this week. Old one not been off for at least five years so I've not really noticed the following...
I had a replacement immersion heater fitted and the plumber must have had a struggle getting the old one out (he did it when I was away) and the top of the cylinder is very distorted around the immersion heater hole. Is this normal? There's never been any leak or other problem, so I suppose I can leave it. The old jacket was tucked around the immersion heater but not covering it (before you slap my wrists!) but covered the distortion of the cylinder, hence not spotted. It was done in 2004 and has lasted this long.

Leave well alone, mate - copper cylinders are very thin, and immersion heaters can be very tight, especially when stuck in with a sealant.
Its always a bit of a gamble replacing them, I find. Not my favourite!
