Diverter Valve!!

After much stress and delving into the unknown i have finally concluded that my diverter valve is knackered..i have a potterton suprima 30l and have had probs for last few days(as in earlier posts). the boiler works for hw but not ch...i have manually moved diverter to ch only but boiler wont fire up..thermostat up at highest point etc. as soon as i turn hw back to continous the valve automatically turns to hw only!! is there any reason for this? is there anything else i can try and can i temporarily bypass it somehow just to get some heat on temp, five days without it now. if there is anything temp then great but i will also have to arrange an engineer to change it etc can anyone give me a rough price so that i know the guy is being fair with me. i dont mind paying a good price for a good job but dont wanna get stung by someone taking advantage of my ignorance! thanks in advance.

Remove cylinder stat from cylinder ensuring that it is turned up to max turn on your heating/hot water controller ensuring is is calling for hot water and open the MV on the heating circuit manually you might need to jam in the manual position depending on which type of valve you have.

Some of them are operated with a lever some you remove the power head and on others you have to push the lever into the valve head and move to the side.

If you manage to get the valve to open for heating then you should have heat through the rads but you will only be able to control everything via the hot water stat and hot water side of your heating controller until you get the valve replaced.
